Medieval manuscripts rarely survive without some damage. Some is caused by water leakage, pests, or fire. Some is deliberate. Deliberate damage has often been labeled “iconoclasm,” or, more frequently, when such examples are reproduced in scholarly books, the damage is simply ignored.
