Session Abstract (Max. 300 words) : n recognition of the 450th anniversary of the Titian’s death in 1576, this session seeks papers presenting new scholarly research, documentation, and revelations about Titian’s art. Papers addressing breakthroughs made during conservation initiatives are particularly welcome.
Major campaigns recently undertaken by Save Venice of several of Titian’s most important paintings have produced discoveries and insights into his working methods. Among the objects conserved are the Assumption of the Virgin and the Madonna di Ca’ Pesaro Altarpiece in the Basilica dei Frari, an Annunciation in the Duomo of Treviso, and several other religious paintings in Venice in the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, the Church of Madonna dell’Orto, and elsewhere.
Prospective speakers should send their abstracts of no more than 300 words (plus title of 15 words) to Sarah Blake McHam ( sarah.blake.mcham@gmail.com) and Patricia Fortini Brown ( pbrown@Princeton.edu) by July 8. Please include a shortened C.V. Applicants will be notified by July 30.
