Appel à contribution : “Black and Indigenous Thought in the Iberian Worlds”, RSA, date limite le 1er août 2025

Type : Paper Panel

Session Abstract (Max. 300 words) : This panel seeks contributions from scholars engaged in cutting-edge research in Iberian and Hispanic studies that explore how Black individuals, Indigenous peoples, and non-Christian groups engaged with, navigated, and resisted both local and imperial power structures. Of particular interest are studies that investigate how individuals experienced and contested processes of racialization, and how they made use of, resisted, or strategically engaged with institutions and ideologies that sustained those structures. The panel aims to contribute to the growing body of scholarship on Black and Indigenous thought within the Iberian transatlantic, transpacific, and Mediterranean contexts.

Relevant topics may include confraternities, ceremonies, festivities, and Indigenous engagement with imperial courts or royal legislation. By centering diverse historical actors, this panel seeks to advance discussions on the contributions of Black and Indigenous individuals within the Hispanic world and consider their broader implications for the field.

Contributions are welcome from a range of disciplines, including but not limited to literature, history, art history, Indigenous studies, Afro-Hispanic studies, colonial and decolonial studies, Transatlantic Studies, the Spanish Pacific, and Mediterranean studies. Papers may address any geographical, linguistic, or cultural context directly or indirectly connected to Hispanic or Iberian enterprises between 1300 and 1700.
